Seems to be a bug. he onlt attacks if you break your oath and he shows up in camp before you kill alfira, if you play it kinda straight until you kill alfira, that breaks any oath as far as i know, and the knight comes afterwards. so from what i can tell it's an order of operations error, but propably so niche that the devs will never fix it.

I chose it for "RP" reasons, being the helpfull knight in shining armor. Mechanically I think the other two are better, since Devotion gets a few Paladin spells prepared and some cleric spells, which aren't necessarily the best. Their oath abilities also aren't that amazing, but they do fit very well thematically.
